Inspired by the African Antelope, this collection features a highly polished Springbok horn combined with pewter. The ebony horn contrasts beautifully with the delicate metallic gleam of lead-free pewter detailing.
The horn pendant is suspended from a black rubber choker. All pieces have been treated with a solution in accordance with standard veterinary practice.
The Impondo Zulu jewellery collection is to be further developed to ensure that the beauty of this emblematic animal lives on and spreads the spirit of Africa across generations.
Some information on the Springbok:
The Springbok is a small antelope species peculiar to Southern Africa where vast herds roam the harsh African plains. The Springbok is a prolific breeder and each year the wildlife authorities carefully calculate how many antelope can be sustained within a specific area. These controls are essential to maintaining the survival of the species and from over-grazing the land which is dependant upon seasonal rains for sufficient food sources.
From the beginning of time in Africa the Springbok has been used as a food source and for basic clothing.
Today the meat is a delicacy and is exported around the globe. The skins are now used in many forms within the game curio, tourist and soft furnishing industries.
Only the horns are considered a waste product and so the Impondo Zulu range ensures that the beauty of this natural resource is enjoyed for decades to come.
